So let's say your in the UAE waiting for your residency visa to process, or your spouse is working here and you your original tourist visa is running out.

Not to worry! (but you can be anxious)

More than likely, the closest border crossing from Dubai or Abu Dhabi would be Al Ain-> Oman border at the Mezyad border crossing.

MUST have items:

1)Passport

2)Money (you can pay by card)

*If you own a vehicle, you will need your vehicle registration card. If you are leasing, you will NOT be able to cross with you vehicle and WILL have to WALK.

Step 1:

Find a way to get to the Mezyad border (drive, taxi, uber)

Drive/Walk through the first immigration gate.

If you drove, you will get a paper that needs to be stamped that approves your vehicle registration.

They will instruct you to go inside the first building and pay for you exit stamp.

This costs 30 AED.

Step 2:

Drive to the Oman border. You will see the WELCOME TO OMAN sign.

Park your vehicle, (if walking through, just walk in).

Inside, you will need to fill out a form. Make sure to let the immigration officer know that you are going directly back to the UAE so you do not need to buy car insurance.

You will have to pay 50 AED (5 Oman currency) for your entrance and exit stamp to Oman.

Step 3:

Collect your passport and drive/walk back to the UAE border.

At the UAE border, you will need to enter through another gate and they will direct you to into another building to get your new entrance stamp (free).

If you drove, you will need to pass by another gate and have you vehicle inspected.

You will get your final piece of paper stamped and off you GO!

Hope this helped and sorry for no pictures, but didn't want to risk it at the border. ;)
