it's not a vacation

Call it a journey. An adventure. A wander. Anything but a vacation!

When I speak to people about my travels and moving back to Korea to teach, at the end of the conversation, they say "Enjoy your vacation."

My goal in life is to never have to vacation from life, as I want to and will be doing things that I love, therefore not needing to vacation from my reality. It is important for me to try and get this message across when I speak to people as I think it important that we all try and create a life that we don't need a vacation from. Doing something you love and that you are really good at!

I am going to Korea for work and travel; not for a vacation. For anyone who knows anything about teaching ESL in Korea, it is anything but a vacation. Here is a great read about what it is really like ;)

I work the same, if not more hours as most Westerners do. Now, yes, I do get 2 weeks vacation each contract, but those weeks can be used to travel to close Asian countries for more adventure, rather than relaxing on an all inclusive resort in Cuba.

I understand we have been socialized to think that it is normal to go through the stages of life; school, marriage, buy a house, have kids, work till 65, retire, relax and die. I get it. Personally, I think most people who desire this lifestyle, lack a purpose in life and just go through the motions of this incredible life we have. We should be desiring to be doing something we love for forever, regardless of age and never having to retire or vacation from it.

It is so important to have a purpose in our life and have to want to vacation from it.
